Duler: Albert Developers emerged North Goa champions in the GFA’s Second Division League following their 2-2 draw against Candolim Sports Club in their final league match played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Monday.
Albert Developers, who are undefeated in the league so far managed to top the group with seven points while Candolim SC finished second with five points. Both the teams have now qualified for the State finals.
Albert Developers started the match on an attacking note right from the first whistle and their efforts paid dividends in the fifth minute when Joel Fernandes played a well measured corner kick, which was headed in by Joliton Fernandes to make it 1-0. Even though Albert Developers were enjoying better possession, Candolim SC managed to make it all square in the 10th minute through Saprem Diukar who capitalised on the miscommunication error between Albert keeper and defender. The teams were tied 1-1 at the break.
In the second half, the teams were engaged playing more of a midfield battle. However, Candolim SC took the lead in the 80th minute when Saprem headed in Dwayne’s corner kick to make it 2-1. And just when it looked like Albert Developers would taste their first defeat of the campaign, Gourav Kankonkar came with the equaliser with just three minutes left on the clock. Krishna set up Gourav who rounded the Candolim keeper to make it 2-2.
In another match at Poriat ground, Milagres SC recorded a 4-0 win over Shree Nagesh Maharudra SC. Lloyd Cardozo scored a brace for the winners while Schubert Colaco and Valito Miranda scored a goal each for the winning side.
