Anti-burglary squad arrests two for motorcycle theft

PANAJI: The anti-burglary squad of CID, Crime Branch has arrested two persons in connection with a motorcycle theft.
Police disclosed the names of the duo as Akshay Vernekar (21) and Darshan Ghate (22), both from Karnataka. Both, according to police, were presently residing at Verna.
According to the police, based on intelligence gathered, the anti-burglary team intercepted the two who were travelling on a two-wheeler. The police informed that the registration number of the two-wheeler was found to be fake. After investigation, it was learnt that the two-wheeler was stolen from the jurisdiction of Karwar police station and in that regard a complaint was lodged with Karwar police by the vehicle owner.
The police have recovered the motorcycle valued at around Rs 50,000.
The police further informed that Vernekar, as learnt during investigation, is an undertrial in a murder case in Karnataka and was presently out on bail.
Police informed that investigations are on to find out involvement of the two in auto theft cases reported in Goa.
The investigation is being conducted under the supervision of SP Karthik Kashyap.
