ATM skimming case: Panaji police attach laptop

PANAJI: Panaji police have attached a laptop in connection with ATM card skimming case in which a Bulgarian national Miroslav Stanoev (30) was arrested.

The accused had come to Goa on 28 of last month, police said, adding that, investigation is on to ascertain whether the accused has any accomplices and whether the accused had fixed such skimmer devices to any more ATMs. Police said that the laptop will be referred to the cyber crime police, Ribandar for examination.

Stanoev was arrested on Saturday and is currently in police custody. Police had recovered two skimmer devices that were allegedly fixed to two ATMs located along the A B road in the city to steal the ATM card details of customers.

Police team, during the inspection of an ATM, found one suspicious device installed to the machine. Following which, the police alerted the bank officials and after verifying the said device, it was revealed to be a skimmer.

Subsequently, police examined the CCTV footage wherein one person (foreign national) wearing black coloured t-shirt and short pant was found fixing the alleged skimmer device to the ATM. After which a trap was laid and the accused was apprehended when he came to remove the skimmer device. Police said that one more skimmer device was recovered based on disclosure of the accused.
