Ponda: Reacting to the resolution taken by the Shiroda gram sabha, opposing a barge jetty proposed at Karai, former river navigation minister Sudin Dhavalikar said that the barge jetty was never proposed at Karai, Shiroda, and only a passenger jetty has been proposed under Sagarmala project of the Ministry of Shipping.
Dhavalikar, while speaking to this daily on Monday, alleged, “Shiroda sarpanch Amit Shirodkar is misguiding the people by spreading the false information,” and went on to ask the sarpanch Shirodkar to contact Chief Minister, who is also RND Minister, to stop the work of such a jetty if proposed in Shiroda.
“Panchayat should also approach Minister of Shipping Nitin Gadkari in this regard, and seek explanation from him before spreading a false information,” he suggested.
He further said that “in order to increase the touristic importance of the state, five passenger jetties have been proposed in the state – at Sanvordem, Shiroda, Durbhat, Old Goa, and Aldona. These jetties will be used by passenger boats, which will sail from Sanvordem to Panaji and Aldona to Panaji within 80 minutes. Along with the unique experience of traveling, it will also help reduce vehicular transport on the road and will also save time of the people.”
“Barge jetty is not a part of Sagarmala project in the state, especially, in Shiroda area. The discussion held at the gram sabha is baseless,” he said.
He also refuted the allegations made against him, and stated that jetties are planned by Captain of Ports Department, and added that it does not come under River Navigation Department.
It may be recalled that Shiroda locals have raised opposition to the barge jetty proposed by the Captain of Ports Department at Karai,Shiroda under Sagarmala project of the central government.
The locals have stated that the Captain of Ports Department did not take them into confidence while proposing the jetty.
Sarpanch Amit Shirodkar has said that the panchayat was only aware about the passenger jetty proposed under Sagarmala project at Karai, and “the locals have welcomed the decision, but the barge jetty proposed near the passenger jetty was kept hidden by the department and as soon as the locals learnt about the hidden agenda, they opposed it.”
