Two second half goals by tall and well built striker Abdoul Fall and substitute medio Rohan  Pednekar enabled Calangute Association come back from a goal down and register a stunning  2-1 win against Velsao Sports and Cultural Club in the GFA Professional  League match played at SAG grounds,Utorda on Monday.

Velsao Sports and Cultural Club took the lead just a few seconds away in the first session through a curling left footed strike from striker Joseph Pereira who received a neat pass from Lalwang Bohham. Calangute keeper Saniji Bugde had no chance at all to stop the ball from entering the nets.

Velsao Sports and Cultural Club , enjoyed the first half of play with a lot of possession , had to blame themselves for the surprising loss as they could not capitalise on a few decent chances , even from close.

Velsao’s medio Flan Gomes who dazzled with his quick footwork and defense splitting passes worked hard for his team  as he fed Joseph Pereira and Lalwang Bohham time and often  but the  duo failed to guide the ball inside the rival nets in the first half.

The second session saw Calangute Association a totally transformed side ,thanks to the induction of Rohan Pednekar who  came in place of Mohammad Shahsad midway in the second session .It was Rohan who split the porous defense of Velsao  with accurate passes and positional play and the match which belonged to the Velsao team began to tilt in favour of Calangute Association.

After coming close in finding the mark, on a few occasions, ,Calangute Association leveled the score in the 85th minute when Abdoul Fall dodged two rival defenders on the edge of the box after Rohan Pednekar   made a neat pass to him and  banged the ball to the far end of Velsao nets to beat keeper Preston Rego.

Goaded by the success, Calangute Association exerted tremendous pressure against the Velsao team whose defense looked to be in sixes and sevens as the match neared its end and just three minutes before the final hooter, Calangute’s  super substitute player Rohan scored the match winner following a defensive lapse as he neatly pushed the ball to the far end of Vesao nets off a pass from Domnic Fernandes.

Earlier, Domnic Fernandes had some good chances to find the mark, twice in the first half and twice in the second session, but the striker tries were a wee bit off the mark. Abdoul Fall too sent his scorching shots off the target in both sessions.

Fall could have given Calangute the lead in the very first minute of play but he shot over the bar. Thereafter, in the second session, he had two more decent chances to score but ended in shooting the ball wide off the mark.

However, as the match neared its end, Fall and Rohan gave a harrowing time to Velsao Sports and Cultural Club and eventually saw their team carving out a deserving win.

With this win, Calangute Association has now collected 13 points in 17 matches while Velsao Sports and Cultural Club have 17 points in their kitty.
