Calangute ex-sarpanch favours use of hooks to avoid plastic littering

CALANGUTE: As part of initiative against littering of plastic bags, a unique concept of using hooks to keep plastic intact was introduced by Calangute ex sarpanch and present panch of Naika waddo Geeta Parab during a programme on Wednesday.

Parab, who is also the president of GPMSA of Bardez block, said the idea of introducing the ‘hook system’ came from her father-in-law who used to put his water and electric bills on a hook. The hooks were distributed during the awareness programme.

She said keeping the saying in mind ‘charity begins at home’ mind she started the practice from her home itself.

Another resident of Naika waddo Pandari Parab said that the best way to keep the plastic from spreading and littering is through the hook. “The hook is a simple way to stop the plastic menace,” he said. Laximan Parab said awareness on this cost-effective method needs to be created among school children.

Eknath Nagvekar said this is nothing new but an old practice followed by people in the earlier days.
