The lifeguards, attached to the Drishti Life Saving Pvt Ltd, rescued four fishermen out of the total eight, while four others swam ashore when their motorised canoe capsized off Baina beach after a technical snag in engine outboard motor on Friday afternoon.
As per available information from Harbour coastal police and Drishti sources, the incident took place at around 3.30 p.m when eight fishermen from Katem Baina were returning to the shore after unloading their catch at Hollant beach. However, when they were around few metres away from Baina beach, the engine outboard motor, attached to the canoe, encountered a technical snag and due to which it got switched off.
This resulted in the canoe getting capsized. The lifeguards on Baina beach rescued two fishermen. “Two other fishermen, who were found to be in distress, were rescued with the help of a jet ski,” stated Drishti sources. While four other fishermen managed to swim ashore.
Harbour coastal police rushed to the beach upon receiving information about the incident. The capsized canoe was brought to the shore with the help of local fishermen. The information of the incident was also passed on to the fisheries department.
