NAVELIM: Goals by Sevelon Cardozo, Anthony Wolfe and striker Uttam Rai enabled Churchill Brothers S C to register a 3-0 win over a tenacious Bardez F C 3-0 in the GFA Professional League match played at Rosary grounds, Fatorda on Thursday.

Churchill Brothers S C who were leading 1-0 at half time through a goal scored in the 44th minute of play by Sevelon Cardozo, scored two more goals in the post interval session through attacking medio Anthony Wolfe (47th minute) and striker Uttam Rai (65th minute) to register a deserving win.

Churchill Brothers had a few chances in the first half of play and it was only with the induction of Anthony Wolfe, just before half time that helped the team score.

The first half was well fought by the youthful looking Bardez FC who not only kept the Churchill Brothers strikers at bay but also came close in finding the mark on quite a few occasions in which medio Richard Cadozo, Rudresh Mandrekar looked dangerous as they tried to gain entry deep inside the rival box to find the mark.

Bardez Fooball Club defence also looked steady, particularly in the first half of play wherein defender Bhavesh Gawas, Cariton Cabral and Shramesh Naik gave a good account of themselves never allowing the Churchill Brothers strikers free space to get in.

However, the induction of Anthiony Wolfe after replacing Cyrus Noronha seemed to be an intelligent ploy to outwit the Bardez defence. Once Wolfe made his presence felt, Churchill Brothers attack became sharp and goals began to come forth– though the team made a mess out of the numerous chances they had in the second session, not to mention a few glorious chances in the first half wherein Uttam Rai could have bulged the nets in the 16th minute off a cross from Jovel Martins, who had a very good game.

Churchill Brothers SC went into the lead following a good build up in the middle which saw a fast move culminating into a goal after Sevelon’s shot hit Bardez FC’s medio Anil Palyekar and deflected in giving no chance at all to Bardez FC keeper Hrushikesh Kinalekar to react. Inalekar had to be replaced in the last seven minutes of play due to an injury and Elesh Shirvoikar who came in his place also did make some smart saves as the match neared its end.

Churchill Brothers buttressed their lead when the second session was hardly two minutes old after Anthony Wolfe headed angularly to beat Bardez keeper off a lofty pass from Sevelon.

Wolfe would have scored in the very first minute of the second session had his brilliant tap not be stopped on the goal line by Stephen Martins who fell back to stop Wolfe from scoring.

Churchill Brothers were in good command in the second session and appeared to move swiftly as they launched several dangerous looking forays, but somehow the Bardez FC defence demonstrated a lot of courage and determination to keep Churchill Brothers strikers from causing damage to their goal.

But Churchill Brothers SC persisted with their attacking play in the second session and scored their third goal through Uttam Rai whose rasping grounder from outside the box off a neat pass from Anthony Wolfe crashed to the far end of the nets. Churchill Brothers had three move scoring chances all of which were blown off due to inept shooting by their strikers.
