Churchill sounds bugle for GFA president’s election

Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao sounded his bugle for the Goa Football Association (GFA) president election by making it clear – in his interaction with the media- that he has the majority support from all parts of Goa.

The election to the GFA Executive Committee is scheduled for the month of July.

“I have got the support of majority of clubs affiliated to GFA to contest for the post of the President  and my elections could be almost unanimous” declared Churchill Alemao said Alemao while addressing the media flanked by  influential and well known football players , Philomena Barreto and Proty Fernandes .

“My support base is very substantial” said Churchill Alemao adding further that when  he met Avertano Furtado, the other known contender for the post, a month ago,the latter had clearly told him that if he(Chuchill ) was contesting, Avertano would not contest.

“What can I do if Avertano is contesting? If he too is contesting, let him do so. I cannot stop anyone from contesting,” said Churchill while answering a question from the media.

Chuchill Alemao stressed that he had been in football for decade’s altogether and that it is only after his entry in the scene of football– in a big way – that the salaries of the players rose drastically. He claimed that Mahesh Gawli and Lenny Rodrigues were examples of big players in the country after playing for his club.

While impressing the media that he will do something for Goan players to be in India team , Alemao said that the approach should be good towards SAG and AIFF for things to work out well for the betterment of Goan football.

“My Club is the only club that has won all the major tournaments in the country and I am contesting for the post of the President of GFA so that Goans attain great heights in the field of football” said Alemao.

Churchill Alemao blamed the referees for his team’s relegation from the I-league this season. “Refereeing was not up to the mark,” said Churchill Alemao when asked why his team was relegated when he takes credit of winning major tournaments in the country.

Churchill Alemao stressed that he has the support of all the clubs from South Goa to North Goa and that his victory is assured by all clubs.
