North Goa district Collector has issued a stop-work order to Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd (IPSCDL) for various digging works undertaken by it within the jurisdiction of the Corporation of the City of Panaji, with immediate effect.
However, it is learnt from the sources that most of the ongoing digging works in the city are linked to the laying of new water pipelines as also laying of fibre optic cables by a telecommunications services company.
Furthermore, the digging work taken up by IPSCDL is limited to few city pockets, and linked to installation of 400-odd CCTV cameras around the city, and concerns erection of poles for the purpose.
Meanwhile, the notice issued by the Collector, Levinson Martins to IPSCDL has stated that the digging work undertaken under the smart city project is without any prior permission as also no boards are displayed providing information of the work.
The Collector has also directed the IPSCDL to stop digging or excavation of public roads within the jurisdiction of the CCP.
Furthermore, the IPSCDL has been directed to seek permission from the North Goa Collector for undertaking its digging works. Collector has also asked IPSCDL to produce the documents if it has obtained related permission earlier.
It is learnt that the IPSCDL is planning to meet the Chief Secretary over the matter, after being convinced that the North Goa Collectorate is into some misunderstanding as regards the ongoing digging works in the
