Panaji: The Congress party will hold a meeting in the next two days with the remaining five party MLAs and decide on appointing the new leader of opposition in the state legislative assembly.
“In a day or two, we will call a joint meeting of our MLAs and the Pradesh Congress Committee and decide on whom to nominate as the next leader of the opposition. There is still time, we can nominate our leader even on July 15, the first day of the monsoon session of the assembly,” said AICC secretary in-charge of Goa desk A Chellakumar while speaking to this daily.
A total of ten of the 15 Congress MLAs – comprising a two-third majority – merged their party’s legislative wing into the Bharatiya Janata Party on July 10.
Chellakumar said that even though Girish Chodankar has resigned as the president of PCC, he will be asked to attend the meeting.
Chellakumar further said that nominee’s name will be sent to the party high command and after getting the nod from New Delhi, the Congress party will submit the name to Speaker of the House Rajesh Patnekar.
