Dempo crush depleted St Dominic; Sporting make progress

PANAJI: Big guns, Sporting Clube de Goa and Dempo Sports Club grabbed full points after winning their respective encounters in the Goa Football Association U-16 League matches played on Sunday.

While Sporting Clube de Goa eased past Goan FC at Don Bosco ground, Dempo hardly played 22 minutes as the match was abandoned after St Dominic Savio SC, Calvim players were reduced to 6 boys following injuries to their players.

At Ella ground, St Dominic Savio reported at the venue with just nine players and playing against Dempo SC at their home turf with two men down was always going to be difficult.

Dempo SC showed no sympathy towards their opposition and opened their scoring in the 4th minute through Shreyash Naik.

It was an easy outing for the academy boys as they had total control of the game. Minutes later, Neico Fernandes crossed played a perfect delivery to Shameek Vas who made no mistake to score the second goal.

In the 8th minute, Rajan Kumar played a through ball to Shameek Vaz, who dribbled past couple of defenders and rounded off the keeper to complete his brace.

Few minutes later, Necio Fernandes scored a brace netting in the 11th and 12th minutes. Dwayne Neto and Vinay Harji scored a goal each.

In the 20th minute, Shreyash Naik completed his hat-trick and made it 8-0 in favour of Dempo SC. Soon the match was stopped as three players of St Dominic Savio were reported injured and referee called off the match.

At Don Bosco ground, Panjim, Sporting Clube de Goa proved their supremacy over strong contenders Goan Football Club with 3-0 win.

The winners led 1-0 at the break as Leadon Da Costa scored the team’s first goal in the 32nd minute. Crossing over, Sporting Clube de Goa continued their dominance over their rivals and netted two more goals through Wilson Ban in the 49th minute.

Sporting Clube de Goa scored their third in the dying minutes of the game through Rohan Gaonkar.
