Dempo went on to lose once again in the Goa Premier League, as they went down to Geno who chased their 216 run target with six wickets to spare at GCA Ground Porvorim on Saturday. Dempo won the toss and elected to bat first.
Losing opener Rahul Mehta early for just 2 runs, it was captain Sagun Kamat and Prathamesh Gawas who built a strong partnership and led the team across the 100 run mark. Their run rate was slow but they made sure no wickets were lost. Kamat departed for 61 followed by Gawas who contributed 78 runs; Dempo were 162/3.
After Suyash Prabhudessai’s departure wickets fell in quick succession and Dempo were struggling at 197/6 in the 37th over. But wicketkeeper Karan Vashodia and Subodh Bhati made sure they didn’t give away their wickets and remained unbeaten on 18 and 9 runs.
For Geno, Achit Shigwan and Harmeet Singh shone as they took two wickets each, with Darshan Misal and Harshad Gadekar taking one each.
Coming into bat, Geno began their 216 run chase by losing Sumiran Amonkar for just 4 runs. but Ishaan Gadekar and Himmat Singh stictched together a balanced partnership. They scored 27 and 55 runs respectively.
Captain Darshan Misal played a key role in guiding the team close to the target after the departure of Ishaan Gadekar and Himmat Singh. The captain brought up his half century and was back in the pavillion with a score of 59.
Hereon, Achit Shigwan and Harmeet Singh took Geno home in the 36th over with six wickets to spare.
In another match played between Karimabad and Salgaocar at GCA Ground Sanguem, team Salgaocar chased down Karimabad’s 238 in 39.5 overs. Ravikant Shukla scored a century for Salgaocar.
For Karimabad, Vaibhav Govekar and Vishambar were the only high scorers in the match as both batsmen struck fifties to take their team to a competitive score. Wicketkeeper Rahul Keni struck 41 off 39 balls.
But Salgaocar’s Saurabh Dubey stared with his bowling taking three wickets; whereas Heramb and Om Prakash Chauhan took two wickets each.
Salgaocar lost opener and national star, Unmukt Chand, early in the game as he was back in the pavillion for just 4 runs. It was Mahesh Rao and centurion Ravikant Shukla who contributed with their 64 and 105 runs while taking their teams home.
Karimabad bowlers lacked the bite force to hold down the Salgaocar batsmen except for Vishambar who took 3 wickets for his team.
