The Navhind Times, Planet J Blogging workshop was organised on February 25 at Dempo House, Panaji. The aim of the workshop was to help participants start their own blogs and write successfully. Founder of Androcid and chairman of the IT committee at Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Prajyot Mainkar was the resource person for the half-day workshop which was attended by students, homemakers, doctors, lawyers, photographers and more.
Prajyot began the workshop with an introduction to blogging and highlighted the differences between a web and a blog. “A website is a generic term that can be used for any online presence; it could be a shopping site or gift site. A blog on the other hand is a portal that allows you to publish content on a regular basis. Blog can also be part of a website and blog enables the owners to interact with the other users. Blogging is all about writing exclusive content,” he explained.
He then spoke about reasons for writing a blog and enumerated the points to be remember before starting a blog. Goal, audience, topic, feel of the blog, content type, frequency of posting, promotion and defining structure of the blog and how to measure the reach were all individually explained. Besides the dos, he also covered the don’ts while writing a blog so that participants could commence their blogging journey with a clear picture of what works and what doesn’t.
Elaborating on the CORD formula for writing successful blogs, he stressed on the need for creativity, originality, readability and digestibility for a blog to reach a wide audience and to building readership and a following. “It is not just about writing but being content aware. Content is the king but distribution is the queen. Reaching out to as many people as possible should be the goal,” he said.
In the live demo session, he demonstrated how to start one’s own blog and write posts. Participants who had come equipped with a laptop or their phones were all excited about their new venture. He further explained about blog settings and customisation which would help the new bloggers experiment and learn a few tricks.
Using humour and simple language, Prajyot kept technicalities to a bare minimum and ensured that participants followed his explanations. Most of the participants were novices to the world of blogging, however, he made everything very simple and easy!
The workshop will definitely give a boost to the small number of Goan bloggers as all the participants were enthusiastic about having their own blogs and writing blogs that matter.
