Ferrite thin films will open up new era in MEC manufacture: Joseph

Ferrite thin films (FTFs), with its improved electric and magnetic properties, will open up new era in micro electronic component (MEC) manufacturing, says Jaison Joseph.
Commenting on FTFs created him using pulsed laser deposition (PLD) and Radio frequency (RF) sputtering film deposition systems, Joseph, an associate professor of physics, Government College, Khandola, said that he used facilities at UGC-DAE-CSR, Indore and Department of Opto-Electronics, University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram during his research work.
The associate professor of physics, who has been recently awarded PhD for his research work on soft magnetic materials in nano-thin film form, which was carried out at Department of Physics, Goa University, reveals that “investigations into the structural details of these thin films using glancing incidence X-ray difractometer (GIXRD), stylus prolifrometer, micro-Raman spectrometer and atomic force microscope (AFM) discovered for the first time fabrication of pure c-axis grown nano grain ferrite thin films at a critical low film thickness using RF sputtering technique.”
“The FTFs fabricated by PLD were textured with nano grain dimensions at moderate film thickness. Measurements of magnetic parameters of these thin films using vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and superconducting quantum interface device (SQUID) VSM revealed enriched industry desirable magnetic properties,” mentions the researcher, who followed the guidance of Prof R B Tangsali.
“Improvements in desirable electric properties were also observed in these thin films by performing experiments on a four probe thin film resistance measurement system, specially designed, developed and fabricated for thin film resistance measurements,” he added
His findings were published reputed international scientific journals, Physica B and Materials Research Bulletin.
