Focus on Goa stretch in KR route electrification: Piyush

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday said that 100 per cent electrification of the Konkan Railway route will be completed in next one and half year.

Goyal, who was in Goa for launching the BJP’s membership drive at Sankhali, said,  “The Union government has sanctioned Rs 1100 crore for the electrification of Konkan Railway route from Mumbai to Mangaluru…   there will be focus on the Goa stretch under the project,” he said.

The project  will help stop environmental losses and will enhance train speed, he told media persons while addressing a press conference in the presence of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar, former MP Narendra Sawaikar and  party general secretary Sadanand Shet Tanawade.

The minister said that he has ordered 100 Vistadome coaches, and  trains passing through Goa will have these coaches.

Disclosing the plans to improve railway infrastructure, particularly in the state, the Railway Minister said, “We have decided to put 10 additional loop lines along the entire stretch of the rail line  in the state, which will enhance the capacity of railway infrastructure. The work of double tracking of the Konkan Railway route in Goa has been underway. ”

He  said the ministry has focused on security and safety of children and women besides facilities at railway stations.

“The railway police have rescued 125 girls in Goa in the last one year,” he added.

Goyal pointed out that  Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her budget speech on Friday announced Rs 50 lakh crore investment to enhance railway infrastructure.

“This investment will make the Indian Railways world’s largest railways. The investment will help strengthen passenger safety. This year itself, the government has made capital investment of Rs 1.60 lakh crore in the railway sector. The investment

will help  bring in international technology and foreign funds,” he added.

Ruling out privatisation of the Indian Railways, he said  the government will grant licences to private companies to lay railway tracks in the country.
