Cecille Rodrigues who has won several laurels for the state by performing at various dance events in and outside Goa has now made her way to the Konkani stage. She is enthralling the audience with her performance in the titar ‘Tujem Bhangar, Tujeach Angar’.
She is the daughter of Maria Delia and Luis Conception Rodrigues. Her parents loved dancing and as a young girl, Cecille loved dancing too. She could dance through the night and that was her strength. She had never tried her hand at singing or acting before but was very much appreciated as a dancer.
During her schooling at St Therese’s High School, Mangor Hill, Vasco, she was quite active in school programs. Later, when she joined Carmel College for Women, Nuvem, she participated in various skits and dance programs. Cecille represented India at the International Youth Festival, at Macau in 2011 and represented the Government of Goa at the fifth Lusofonia Musical show in 2013.
She got her big break when she participated in the dance reality show ‘Dance India Dance Super Mom’ and won the second place. She also participated in ‘DID Dance Ka Tashan’ another show on the same channel. In 2015 she bagged the ‘Goa Women of the Decade Achievers Award’ at a Women’s Economic Forum.
Cecille has been a Zumba instructor for the last eight years and has been promoting dance education in schools. She also started her acrobatic and gymnastic classes for children.
CAPA – Cecille’s Academy of Performing Arts is what she calls her venture. She also conducts corporate events for Wellness Programmes. In 2017, she contested for the State Assembly election as an AAP candidate for Taleigao constituency and bagged more than 2500 votes.
She also conducts other activities like skating classes for beginners during summer break.
Watching her performance on television, she was approached by the producers of the Konkani film, ‘Planning Devachem’, where she played the lead role in the movie. After all that dancing, she now turned to showcase her talent to act. The film was released in January 2018.
She was then offered a role by Mariano Fernandes in his tiatr ‘Tujem Bhangar, Tujeach Angar’. A bit hesitant at first, she decided to give it a shot after a little coaxing. She has danced and acted in the tiatr. Singing was never a choice, but in this tiatr her singing added a feather to her cap after the director convinced her to sing, and she tried willingly.
With help and encouragement from a co-actor, Maggie, Cecille realised that she had the talent to sing. Her tiatr shows in Mumbai and London were houseful and the tiatr has now made its way to Goa. She sings for the opening song along with the other actors and returns later for a solo, inviting the audience to join and dance with her on stage.
There is another part where she dances with Luis Bachan and has the crowd demanding for more. She also plays one of the leads with great flair and stage presence. Cecille is seen enjoying her performance in the tiatr. She does not mind continuing if she gets good offers.
Cecille lives with her son Jake, who at a very young age of six already has a video on YouTube. Cecille feels that each one as an individual should explore their talents and hard work is a must. That is her way to success.
