Leon wins; Anurag, Nitish beaten

TALEIGAO: Goa’s Leon Mendonca beat K Mohan in the ninth round to be on 6 points, while GM Anurag Mhamal conceded defeat to IM Mohammed Shaikh and FM Nitish Belurkar lost to statemate Niraj Saripalli at the 2nd Goa International Grandmasters Chess Tournament being played at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Taleigao on Monday. The day saw as many as seven Indian players making their International Norms even as Armenian GM Petrosyan Manuel continued to be on top in category A with 7.5 points. Meanwhile, in category C Goa’s  Ayush Pednekar pocketed seven points at the end of Round 8 to be in joint second position with seven others.

Workshop for GCA’s fresh umpires

PORVORIM: Goa Cricket Association (GCA) will conduct a workshop for its fresh umpires at GCA Conference Hall, Porvorim on Sunday, June 30 from 9 am. The workshop is mandatory for all the fresh umpires who wants to appear for the GCA Umpiring exam, states GCA’s press release.
