The state government has organised a condolence meet (shradhanjali-cum-adarajali sabha) on the 12th day of demise of former chief minister the late Manohar Parrikar on Thursday, stated Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude.

Addressing media persons, Gaude said that the condolence meeting will be organised at the green lawns of the Kala Academy, at Campal-Panaji from 4.30 pm onwards.

The meet is likely to be attended by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Governor Mridula Sinha, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, cabinet ministers, MPs, MLAs, secretaries to the government, senior bureaucrats in the state administration, leaders of all political parties, and persons from all walks of life.

Gaude said that people will get an opportunity to offer floral tributes at the photo of late Parrikar, which will be kept at the venue.

Speaking further, he said that the life of late Parrikar (1955-2019) was dedicated to the welfare of state and its people.

The meeting is organised to pay homage and respect to the departed leader who was loved not only by Goans but by people of the whole country, he said.

Ex-MLA Sidharth Kunkolienkar appealed to the people to remain present for the meeting as it would be the best tribute to the departed soul who had cultivated friendship during his journey as a politician.

Chairman of Dempo Group of Companies Shrinivas Dempo revealed that he enjoyed a good relationship with the former defence minister and former chief minister the late Manohar Parrikar, being a sports lover and an educationist, and termed the tenure of the then chief minister as ‘journey of excellence,’ and appealed to the citizens to attend the meet.

He further said that Parrikar sacrificed his interest for the cause of the state and nation and added that he has seen Parrikar working from close quarters during the Under 17 football tournament when he was the president of Goa Football Association.

Parrikar had cleared a file within just 48 hours, he added.
