VASCO: Minister for Panchayati Raj Mauvin Godinho on Friday said that goods and services tax (GST) has been a major reform in India and it has proven to be one of the biggest achievements for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government at the Centre led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in terms of revenue collection of Rs 97,000 crore on average per annum within a short span of time.
Addressing a press conference, Godinho said that the central government is targeting Rs 1 lakh crore per annum revenue through GST.
“The response for GST across all sectors has been good. The reform will give a new direction to nation building, ending multiplicity of taxes,” he said, pointing out that GST replaces more than a dozen levies.
Godinho has been appointed on three different sectors of Group of Ministers (GoM), constituted by the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council. The GoM committees include ‘Real Estate Sector’, ‘Issues related to Lottery’, and Analysis of Revenue from GST’.
“The constitution of GoM was officially announced in pursuance of decision at the 32nd meeting of GST held on January 10 in New Delhi,” informed Godinho.
Meanwhile, South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar tabled a motion congratulating Godinho, on being appointed on three different sectors of GoM, during the workers meeting held at BJP office in New Vaddem on January 17 during which BJP organisation secretary Satish Dhond, Dabolim BJP president Sada Shetkar, Dabolim BJP Mahila Morcha president Anita Thorat, BJP south district secretary Santosh Kerkar, Dabolim campaigning in-charge Shashikant Parab, deputy sarpanch of Chicalim panchayat Kamlaprasad Yadav were present among others.
