Fatorda: Holy Spirit Institute, Margao, Fr Agnel Multipurpose HSS, Verna and Our Lady of Rosary HS, Fatorda entered the quarterfinals of Subroto Mukherjee Cup football tournament for boys U-17 (Salcete Zone), after chalking out wins in their respective matches played at artificial turf grounds, Fatorda-Margao on Tuesday.
In the first match, Holy Spirit Institute rode on a fine hat-trick by Tahir Sheikh as they thrashed Our Lady of Succour HS, Nagoa 4-0. Tahir found the mark in the 8th, 40th and 50th minute, while their other goal was scored by Richard Carvalho in the 20th minute.
Holy Spirit Institute went into the lead as early as the 8th minute when striker Tahir dodged his way from the middle and after entering the box slammed the ball to the far corner of the rival net. Richard Carvalho then struck in the 20th minute to double the lead for Holy Spirit.
The second session saw Holy Spirit Institute having a complete dominance over the proceedings as Tahir Sheikh completed his hat-trick – he first scored his second goal in great style after dodging three rival defenders and coolly tapping the ball home. His third goal came in the 50th minute after he was provided a neat assist from the left flank.
Holy Spirit’s defence and the midfield gave a good account as Myran Fernandes, Treston Noronha and Richard Carvalho combined well and created several goal scoring chances for the team.
