Dempo Charities Trust’s SS Dempo College of Commerce and Economics, Cujira, and Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sanquelim in association with the Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Goa and under the aegis of the National Association of Physical Education and Sports Science (NAPESS) are organising and hosting a scientific international conference on physical education and allied sciences on the theme ‘Holistic Development for Excellence in Sports Performance, Health and Well-Being’.
The conference, which is in its second edition, will be held at Kala Academy on February 27, 28 and 29, 2020, with technical sessions being held at DCT’s SS Dempo College, Cujira. 14 international and seven national speakers have confirmed their participation in the conference.
“The main aim of this conference is to ensure that it benefits the student community across Goa, especially from the Department of Physical Education at Don Bosco College, Panaji,” said principal, Government College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Sanquelim, Gervasio SFL Mendes.
Approximately 600 delegates from abroad and from India comprising of academicians, sports scientists, sports administrators, directors, coaches and students are expected to attend the conference. 100 local delegates working in colleges and administrative sports bodies have also been invited. “A minimum five students per college from Goa can attend this conference. In addition there will be 50 physical education students from Don Bosco College, Panaji,” said secretary NAPESS Jayesh Churi.
He added that this conference will provide a curtain raiser before the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. “We have invited around 24 to 30 resource persons (national and international) who be delivering their ideas which will help us in promoting sports in Goa and India as a whole,” he said. “Also through this conference we want to make people aware about Goans in Olympics as very few people know about them. According to my knowledge we have at least six-eight Olympians from Goa.”
To create awareness about this conference among students in Goa, there will be intercollegiate quiz competitions and poster competition on Olympics.
A number of sub-themes ranging from the Olympic movement, health and wellness, sports nutrition and diet, yoga and allied sciences, sports psychology, physiology, bio-mechanics and kinesiology, sports management, training methods, medicine and community development have been identified for presentation of research papers, which shall also be published as conference proceedings. Submissions for these research papers is open to all.
International footballer Sunil Chettri, Olympic boxing champion Mary Kom and Olympic tennis champion Leander Paes will be the keynote speakers at the inaugural and valedictory functions of the conference.

Submission of abstracts and papers
Papers should be original in their findings and prepared exclusively for the conference.
Papers should strictly not exceed 2000 words typed neatly and should be with double space on one side of A4 size paper.
Abstracts/ Papers should be submitted electronically via email through MS Word on the conference email ID firstname.lastname@example.org
Abstract may be submitted in not more than 200 words should include title, authors/ authors name and institution of affiliation. Abstracts should be submitted on or before November 1 and acceptance of the abstracts will be declared on November 20.
Full paper should reach the organisers with the registration fee on or before December 2019. The organisers propose to publish selected papers in full and the remaining in abstract form in the journal to be released during the conference.
