PANAJI: Actors Akshay Kumar and Chitrangada Singh as well as directors Reema Kagti and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, along with other filmmakers will be present at the International Film Festival of India 2018.
The dignitaries will represent their respective films screened under the Sports Biopics section, at the open air screenings during the IFFI 2018.
Altogether six Indian sports biopics namely ‘Gold’ (2018) as well as ‘Soorma’ (2018) associated with hockey, ‘Mary Kom’ (2014) linked to boxing, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ (2013) about track and field sprinting and ‘1983’ (2014) as well as ‘MSD: The untold story’ (2016) about cricket will be screened at the 49th IFFI as an extension of the ‘Khelo India’ initiative.
These sports biopics will be screened for public at the Jogger’s Park in Altinho, Panaji. The international film extravaganza will see open air screenings as a part of the festival where films of the sports genre will be played on a large screen put up in a vast open area.
The particular section at the 49th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) aims to celebrate sports and recognise the contribution of Indian sportspersons as an extension of ‘Khelo India’ initiative.
In addition to Akshay Kumar, who will be present for the opening ceremony of this section, stars like Chitrangada Singh and Shaad Ali, who are producer and director of ‘Soorma’ respectively; Reema Kagti, the director of ‘Gold’; Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the director of ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’; and Abrid Shine, the director of ‘1983’ will be present for the screenings.
This will be a non-ticketed event and cine lovers as well as general public of all ages will be able to attend the same.
The mega film festival, which is slated to be held from November 20 to 28, will showcase 212 films from over 68 countries. Israel is the country of focus at this annual event. A retrospective of Ingmar Bergman will also be held to mark the filmmaker’s 100th birth anniversary.
