Goencho Avaaz, on Saturday, demanded a judicial inquiry into the land conversions  that were approved by the government during the tenure of former town and country planning minister Vijai Sardesai.

“We are amused by the claim of Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa that he along with the other nine MLAs changed sides from Congress to BJP to stop the destruction of the land in their constituencies by Sardesai,” said co-convenor of Goencho Avaaz Viriato Fernandes.

Fernandes said that “if the claim of Nuvem MLA is to be believed then the ten MLAs ought to demand and compel  the government to revoke all the ill-intended decisions made by Sardesai.”

“We are requesting the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant that he should initiate a judicial inquiry by a sitting judge of the Bombay High Court,” he said.

He also questioned the government’s intention over the appointment of Quepem MLA Chandrakant Kavlekar as the TCP Minister, adding that Kavlekar had also applied for the change of zoning for his property while Sardesai was the minister in the BJP-led government.

“The way Chief Minister has cleaned his cabinet by throwing out corrupt ministers, we are confident that he will also crack the whip on other ministers who are involved in illegalities,” he said.
