The three playgrounds constructed in Mayem constituency by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA) are totally neglected and not fit to play. The play grounds are located in Tikhajan, Kelbai wada and Chorao.
The demand of playgrounds was fulfilled by government after many years. However, due to inability to maintain the three grounds, mud has been washed away and thick bushes have grown on the surface and near the entrance gate.
According to information, the foundation stone of the ground in Mayem was laid by the then sport minister late Sanjay Badekar. The construction work was taken after a decade in 2016 and former speaker Aannt Shet inaugurated it in December 2016.
The responsibility of maintaining the ground was not transferred to the village panchayat. The story of the play ground at Kelbaiwada and Chorao in Mayem constituency, are also similar. The issue was raised by panch members and residents in Gram Sabha and other in meetings. But nothing has happened.
“The playground is not in a state of use. School students and youngsters need a ground to play. What was the purpose of building a ground?” asks former football player Santosh
“The government should hand over the ground to the village panchayat or appoint a committee to look after its maintenance so that the children can avail the benefits of the ground,” opined ex- panch and president of Mayem Hu-Vimochan Nagrik Kruti samiti president Kashinath Mayekar
The sarpanch Sanjay Arondekar and deputy Seema Arondekar also made a demand for the repairs of the playgrounds.
“The government is least bothered of the villagers needs. Lakhs of rupees have been spent but all in vain,” said Haturli ward panch, Santosh Gadekar.
Mayem MLA Praveen Zantye said that he is making efforts to sort out the issue.
