The opposition councillors of Mormugao municipal council (MMC) have demanded not to entertain installation of ‘giant wheel’ and other joy rides during the ensuing Saptah celebration in Vasco, following a tragedy reported at an amusement park in Ahmedabad, Gujarat recently.
The former chairperson of MMC Kritesh Gaonkar and other opposition councillors have strongly opposed the installation of joy rides in the municipal garden during the annual Saptah celebration.
“The chief officer and members from the ruling council should not entertain joy rides such as ‘giant wheel’ and other activities as they may prove dangerous to the lives of people,” said Gaonkar.
He disclosed that some vendors/parties are interested in installing joy rides during the annual Saptah celebration.
“Taking cognizance of the incident which happened at an amusement park in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, the chief officer and the ruling council members should keep them away in issuing permissions for installing joy rides in the Saptah fair in the interest and safety of the people,” said Gaonkar.
Meanwhile, MMC chief officer Gaurish Shankwalkar, disclosed that so far the municipal authority has not received any proposal from the vendors to install joy rides or giant wheel.
