A Narkasur effigy in the process of being made at St Inez in Panaji. As per the legends, Narkasur was killed by Lord Krishna during the wee hours of the Chaturdashi of the second fortnight (Krishna paksha) of the Ashwin month as per the Hindu calendar. Narkasur effigies are burnt to mark the killing of the demon king at the hands of Lord Krishna. This year the Ashwin Krishna Chaturdashi falls on October 23.
