PANAJI: A middle-aged tourist couple from Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh on visit to Goa drowned in the sea along the Miramar beach Monday morning, while three other members of the family were rescued by the locals.
The town police station informed that Bulusu Srinivasa Kameshwara Sharma, 45 and his wife, Bulusu Jotsna, 38 who were residing along with four other families from Hyderabad, at the Miramar Residency went for a morning walk along the Miramar beach at around 7 a.m. They were also accompanied by other members of the family.

After walking for some distance, Bulusu Sharma decided to enter the sea water even though he had not carried swimming costume. Soon he was pulled by the strong undercurrents, which prompted his wife to enter the water followed by three other members of the family.
Though the locals, including workers of the Corporation of the City of Panaji who were on duty at the Miramar beach, pulled all the five people out of water, the couple died on their way to the hospital.
Two members of the family are still in the Goa Medical College while another one was discharged later in the day. “The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to the family,” the police sources informed. Incidentally, there were no lifeguards on the beach when the mishap occurred.
Meanwhile, two labourers involved in sand extraction at Ozarim in Pernem taluka went missing on Monday after they slipped from their canoe in the Chapora river, said the Pernem police.
The two labourers hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Ashok Channeshwar Raj, 18 and Kedar, 45, slipped from the canoe while extracting sand and are feared drowned. The search is on, said the police. A missing case has been registered.
