Nine NCC cadets felicitated

NT BUZZ

1 Goa Battalion NCC, Panaji organised a felicitation ceremony for nine NCC cadets from various colleges from Goa who participated at the Republic Day Parade, New Delhi, and later won the coveted Prime Minister’s Banner. The function was held at NCC office, Panaji.

NCC Directorate of Karnataka and Goa, Director, Col Anirban Datta said: “In Karnataka and Goa we have 74,760 cadets of which 3,500 are from Goa. Jointly, they went through a series of three camps and finally a team of 106 was selected to go to New Delhi. Nine of these cadets were from Goa.”

Brigadier, VSM, deputy director general, NCC Directorate, Karnataka and Goa, DM Purvimath called for the increase in the strength of cadets in Goa and the need to recognise the National Cadet Corps certificates for government jobs. He said these certificates have some identity and value and asked the senior officers present to take up this case officially to the state departments of education, higher education and primary education.

Purvimath further said that certificates do not guarantee one with a job but they guarantee particularly admission to the medical and engineering colleges.

He also informed that these cadets were earlier felicitated by the Karnataka government, where the government declared the infrastructure facilities for the NCC cadets in Karnataka, in four places. “Similar things have been promised by the Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Manohar Ajgaonkar at the felicitation held for these NCC cadets at Raj Bhavan,”said Purvimath.

He further added that if the infrastructure is made available for NCC cadets, in both the states the cadets could be trained better. However, the state government has not identified any place as yet.

“The senior officers of NCC will be conducting a survey and consulting the revenue authorities, following which they will identify the land that would be handed over to the NCC authorities,” he said.

When asked about the proposal to set up Air Wing of NCC in Goa, Purvimath said the demand had been put forward to Ajgaonkar. “We have recently got 10 new aircrafts for the NCC cadets of Karnataka. I can provide them here too but there is no place. However, if a runway is set up, it would be good for Goan NCC cadets to have aerial experience. Just 10 acres for a runway is enough,” he concluded.
