Nirmaan, an organisation founded by students of BITS Pilani and Spree, the sports festival of BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa Campus organised Udaan 2019, a sports festival for the differently-abled children across schools of Goa.
Over 150 students from four schools participated in the day-long festival which was organised in collaboration with Special Olympics Association Bharat, Goa and Paralympics Association of Goa. Director of BITS Pilani Goa Campus, professor G Raghurama graced the prize distribution ceremony and presented medals and certificates to the winners. He praised participants and congratulated volunteers for making this event a phenomenal success.
There is a deep-rooted bias amongst us that only the ‘able’ can achieve. Events such as Udaan do the right thing by taking a small step to provide a platform for the hidden talent. This in turn motivates children to challenge their limitations and push barriers, and perform to the best of their abilities.
The morning session began with different categories of judo and participants included children with hearing impairment who learn under the supervision of coach, Shintre and his team.
The afternoon session began with fun-filled games, activities and dance for the children followed by sports such as football, softball, bocce and athletics. After the completion of all organised sports, Nirmaan volunteers celebrated by playing with the students and clicking pictures at a photobooth set up for the event.
