The students of the BBA Department of Sridora Caculo College of Commerce and Management Studies, Mapusa are back with Odyssey 14.0, National Level Management Fest, which will be held on October 10 and October 11 at Kala Academy, Panaji. The purpose of the fest is to bring management education and industry to a common platform. The inauguration of the event will be held at 10 a.m.
This years ‘Rise to the Pinnacle’ which suggests the culmination point or, in simpler words the highest point of success. The two-day event will hold various rounds such as entrepreneurship, public relations, best manager, human resource, marketing, finance, and various synergy round, that are skills are required to grow in the corporate world.
Odyssey, which is organised by the third year BBA students with the support second year and first year, is exclusively the students’ event wherein students organise and arrange finance for the event. It is very difficult to convince companies while getting sponsorships and they are reluctant to directly give money. Student event coordinator, Archit Thanekar adds: “However, there are companies who think Odyssey is a good platform to advertise and give sponsors. If you ask 10 companies, two will surely give.”
Speaking about the importance of organising college events, principal of the college, Santosh Patkar, says: “These types of events helps students develop their skills and talents and when students organise events there will automatically be scope for personality development, confidence, organising skills and creative thinking.”He adds that education institutions should provide a platform by organsing such events as these skills are very important for them when they pass out and join the industry.
Six colleges from outside the state and six local colleges have confirmed to participate in the event and in addition more two-three colleges are likely to come. The fest will have forty rounds, a participant from each college will take part in one round. From every college there will be a team of six students and each student will represent one subject that could be marketing, finance, etc. “Over the two days, participants will be given a lot of assignments on the subject related to the theme. We also have pre assignments which they have to complete and submit before the event starts,” Archit adds.
The event will be judged by 80-100 judges from the industry and they will also give students feedback.
Explaining what makes Odyssey the biggest management event In Goa, Faculty event coordinator Rajeev Narvekar, says: “Our College is the pioneer of business management studies in Goa. The best of students from all over India participate in the event, making Odyssey a national level event.
This is the 14th edition and every year students set up a standard for this event and over the period of time students have made it bigger and different.”
The fest will conclude with a cultural show which will be held at 7 p.m. at Kala Academy followed by the trophy launch and declaration of the results.
