Minister for Panchayats Mauvin Godinho immersing ashes of late Manohar Parrikar in the Arabian Sea off Bogmalo beach in presence of party workers on Tuesday evening

Parrikar’s ashes immersed in rivers across state




Ashes of former chief minister and ex-Defence Minister the late Manohar Parrikar were immersed in rivers in state on Tuesday.

Urns containing the ashes were taken around in a motorcade procession across the four constituencies of Mormugao, Vasco, Dabolim and Cortalim in Mormugao taluka in presence of respective legislators Urban Development Minister Milind Naik, KTCL chairman Carlos Almeida, Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho and chairman of Goa Rehabilitation Board Alina Saldanha.

The immersion of ashes was done in the evening.

In Mormugao constituency, ashes were immersed off Baina beach while in Vasco constituency, ashes were immersed off Khariwada shore. In Dabolim constituency, the ashes were immersed off Bogmalo beach while in Cortalim constituency, the ashes were immersed off Cortalim ferry point.

During the motorcade procession, hundreds of people paid floral tributes to Parrikar by garlanding and offering flower petals at the portrait and the urns containing his ashes.

Ashes of the former chief minister were also immersed in Tar River at Acoi-Mapusa on Tuesday evening in the presence of ruling councillors and BJP workers.  The immersion was done by Parrikar’s childhood friend Sanjay Walawalkar.

Even former BJP loyalist Sudhir Kandolkar, who had recently joined Congress, visited and paid tributes and was seen interacting with BJP’s Mapusa by-poll candidate Joshua D’Souza.

Also, a function was held in Aldona constituency wherein Aldona Mandal block in presence of Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo paid tributes to Parrikar. The former chief minister’s ashes were taken to different parts of the constituency and later immersed at Corjuem in Aldona river by Aldona block president Franky Carvalho.

UNI adds from Nashik: The ashes of former Union Minister and chief minister late Manohar Parrikar were immersed in the Asthi kund at Ramkund in the Godavari river in Nashik on Tuesday. The immersion of the ashes of those who have died, in the Asthi kund, adjacent to Ramkund in the river Godavari at Nashik is considered as one of the rituals that gives peace to the soul of the dead. The urn containing ashes of late Manohar Parrikar was brought to Nashik on Tuesday. BJP’s Mumbai state office secretary Mukund Kulkarni brought the ashes for immersion. Nashik Purohi Sangh president Satish Shukla and Chandrashekhar Panchakshari conducted the pooja with rhyming of mantras. The pooja was performed at the bank of Godavari river and the ashes immersed in the holy Ramkund on Godavari river.
