Prajot’s lone goal takes Goan Warriors into semis



Goan Warriors FC, Tivim entered the semifinals of 43rd Cana Benaulim Soccer defeating Sao Jose de Areal by a solitary goal played at St John, the Baptist grounds, Benaulim on Wednesday.

The all important goal that proved to be the match winner came off in the 15th minute of the first session when attacking medio Rahul Naik passed the ball to on rushing striker Prajot Aranbekar whose angular effort gave no chance at all to Areal keeper Joseph Monteiro.

While the first half largely belonged to Goan Warriors who played a positional game with short passes, Sao Jose de Areal saw more of the ball in the second session and had quite a number of chances to level the score, but their strikers Marcus Mascarenhas bungled even from close distance.

Sao Jose de Areal played a possession game in the last few minutes of play and stepped up tremendous pressure against their rivals, but the Goan Warriors keeper Suniz Budge proved to be a hard nut to crack under the

Goan Warriors defence ably managed by Madu and Askash gave a good account of theselves to keep the rival strikers at bay.

Areal’s Navil Fernandes and Vishal tried some shots in the last few minutes of play but their efforts were not enough to create any dent in the Goan Warriors defensive line more so due to brilliant goal keeping by Saniz.

Goan Warriors will now meet winners of Tilamola United V Sai Avatar, Anjuna on June 25.
