Drawing inspiration from the letter received from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Raia villagers, on Saturday, resolved to protect the springs and other water bodies in their village, as they prepared themselves to conserve water.

The Prime Minister Modi, through his letter to the  sarpanchas, has urged to conserve the  rainwater  as the country is facing water crisis.

Anthony Fernandes  congratulated the Prime Minister  for sending the  said letter.  A village Francis  Rodrigues, while appreciating the move, sought to know as to who would fund the project for  water conservation.

Xavier Fernandes, the former sarpanch and chairman of the village biodiversity  management committee highlighted the need to protect the village springs.

He  suggested to the panchayat to  carry out inspection of the springs and  water bodies in the village to know about their  factual status.

The  panchayat secretary  read out the Prime Minister’s letter, and later noted down suggestions put forth by the villagers on  the issue of water conservation.

Earlier, the sarpanch  Emma  Gomes  welcomed the villagers for the extra ordinary  gram sabha, convened at the instruction of the  BDO office, and explained one point agenda of the meeting.

Local  MLA  Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco was also present for the meeting.
