During the first six months of the year, in South Goa, a total of 583 criminal cases were reported, of which 518 were detected, putting the detection percentage at 88.85.
Arvind Gawas, South Goa Superintendent of Police, said that “four police stations in South Goa achieved 100 per cent detection. These include Sanguem police station, Mormugao police station, Airport police station and Collem police station.”
As per the available figures, during the first six months, 10 murder cases were reported, of which 10 were detected, 7 attempt to commit murder cases registered, and all were detected, there were 15 cases of rape and 14 were detected, 38 other thefts and 34 were detected, 28 cases of rioting and all were detected, 69 cases of hurt and 68 were detected, 11 cases of chain snatching and 8 were detected, while 13 cases of kidnapping were registered and 9 were detected.
A total of 12 cases of house trespass were reported for the first six months of the year and all were detected.
Gawas informed that in 2018, in all, 528 criminal cases were registered duing the first six months and 461 were detected. The percentage of detection then was 87.31.
Sources said that a total number of 70 heinous crimes like murder, attempt to commit murder, rape, dacoity, robbery were registered by police stations in South Goa in 2018 as against 76 heinous crimes registered during the year 2017.
The sources said that number of heinous crimes like murder, attempt to commit murder, rape, dacoity, robbery decreased during the first six months of 2019.
Gawas said that detection of property offences was also noteworthy in 2018 as compared to 2017. Detection percentage of cases like dacoity, robbery, burglary, chain snatching, theft cases in 2018 was 59.92 while in the year 2017 it was 47.76 per cent. It was stated that there has been an increase in detection of property offences during the last two years.
