St Joseph, St Alex HSS advance

Fatorda: St.Joseph’s High School,Aquem and St.Alex Higher Secondary School, Curtorim moved into the next round of matches of Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament for boys under-17 after chalking out  wins in the matches played at artificial grounds,Fatorda on Monday.

St.Joseph’s High School defeated Our Lady of Carmel High School,Curtorim 6-5 via the tie breaker after playing a 1-1 draw during regulation time.

In the other match of the day, St.Alex Higher Secondary School,Curtorim hammered AIM English High School,Davorlim 4-0 .

St.Alex’s debonair striker Kevin Kalsolkar scored a hat-trick , finding the mark in the 24th,42nd and 50th minute of play while the other goal for the winners was scored by Joswel Cardozo in the 46th minute.

St.Joseph’s High School and Our Lady of Carmel High School were involved in a tight contest with both the teams matching each other well in all departments of the game.

St.Joseph’s High School went into the lead in the 38th minute of play when their attacking medio drew out the rival keeper Prakash Joshi after speeding into the box and cooling smashed the ball to the far corner of the nets.

Our Lady of Carmel thereafter stitched some good moves and leveled the score through Cyann Gonsalves who gave no chance at all to St.Joseph’s keeper Ashwin Colaso with an angular effort.

The match then was fought on level terms with both the teams going into defensive as time wore on.

Bryan Pinto,Venson  Pereira,Shubert Colaso and Wedley Barreto gave a good account of themselves for St.Joseph’s team -working in complete tandem with each other in the defense as well as in the mid field.

Our Lady of Carmel High School too had a good say into the match with Ryan Rodrigues,Steven Fernandes and Roshan Costa along with Asher Rebello and company in the midfield putting in great effort to unsettle the rival defense.

As the teams were involved in a dead-lock, the tie breaker system had to be adopted to decide the winners in which St.Joseph’s High School,Aquem proved to be better.
