Tense situation was witnessed at Bethoda on Friday with villagers coming on the streets after three women walking along the Ponda-Bethoda main road were seriously injured after an Omni Van knocked them down.
Villagers gathered in the large numbers demanding strict action against the car driver, who had fled from the spot. It took police nearly five hours to defuse the tension.
According to Ponda police, the incident occurred at around 8.30 am on Friday when the van was proceeding towards Ponda via Bethoda, lost control and dashed agasint Rohini Gaude (24), Hema Gaude (21) and Mohini Gaude (28), all residents of Padal-Bethoda, who were walking by the side of the road. The trio sustained serious injuries and were shifted to the Sub-District Hospital at Ponda.
The car driver fled from the accident spot and villagers staged protest demanding his arrest. They also demanded that the driver and vehicle owner should come to the spot and promise proper compensation to the injured women. They did not allow the police to move the vehicle leading to tension.
It was only after the arrest of the driver and promise of proper compensation by the car owner that the vehicle was allowed to be removed under police protection at around 1.30 pm.

registered an offence against the car driver Pankaj Kumar Navalram under
sections 279 and 337 of IPC. Further investigation is in
