Valpoi civic body is finally gearing up to implement traffic management plan in the town.
At a meeting presided over by the Valpoi Municipal Council chairperson Akhtar Shah and attended by the council members Sayyad Sarfaraz and Ramdas Shirodkar, officials from RTO, traffic police and officials from PWD and mamlatdar office, it was decided to introduce the traffic management plan on a trial basis for a month without any further delay.
Various issues that contribute to traffic logjams in Valpoi town were discussed and accordingly it was decided to implement the traffic plan for one month. It was highlighted that due to lack of proper traffic management plan and increase in the number of vehicles, Valpoi was witnessing traffic jams everywhere.
VMC chairperson Akhtar Shah said that “we have studied the traffic situation and, hence, the council will be implementing the traffic plan on a trial basis. It has been also decided to introduce pay parking in main market area, besides deploying traffic police personnel to monitor the spots marked as no parking zones in the town.”
Chief officer of VMC Anant Malik said that proper traffic management plan is the need of the hour considering the rise in vehicles.
“I appeal to all Valpoikars to cooperate with the civic body in implementing the plan. This plan will certainly resolve all traffic issues and once pay parking is introduced, the bottlenecks occurring due to traffic in Valpoi main market area will be reduced.”
