PANAJI: Agacaim police have arrested a 19-year-old native of Bagalkot-Karnataka on charges of stealing valuables worth Rs 83,000 from a house at Bambolim.
Police has identified the accused as Ramaiya, a resident of Goa Velha and native of Bagalkot-Karnataka. Police have also nabbed one minor boy who has been sent to state-run Apna Ghar at Merces. Police has recovered one gold chain and a ring worth Rs 60,000 from the accused, Ramaiya.
A complaint in this regard was lodged by Lucy D’Souza, resident of Bambolim claiming that unknown persons committed theft of gold ornaments worth Rs 80,000 and cash of Rs 3,000 from the house. The incident according to the complaint had occured between August 10 and August 15.
During the course of investigation police through reliable information got to know that one Ramaiya was seen near the house of the complainant along with one minor boy. Ramaiya was not traceable after the incident however PI Jivba Dalvi along with Upendra Vaingankar and Sadanand Malik successfully traced the accused at Merces and arrested him on Wednesday midnight. Ramaiya has been remanded to three days police custody.
Explaining the modus operandi of the accused, Agacaim police informed that he would identify the closed houses and with the help of a minor boy gain entry in the house by removing roof tiles and commit theft of valuables. Involvement of the accused in similar offences cannot be ruled out, claimed police.
