Home guards have been accorded ten percent reservation in the recruitment of police constables in the Goa police department.
In a written reply in the assembly, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar informed that recently the Government has amended the recruitment rules (RR) of the post of police constable with 10 percent reservation for home guards.
As per the said amended RR’s, home guards not exceeding 50 years of age, with qualification of SSC and having worked for at least 10 years or more as home guard are eligible to apply for the post of police constable. Parrikar said that they should undergo physical efficiency test and appear for written examination.
The selection amongst the home guards will be done on merit through written examination only and on absorption as police constable, they will have to undergo 3 months of basic training, said Parrikar.
Presently 1317 home guards are working with the Goa police department, Parrikar said.
The home guards volunteers were paid duty allowance of Rs 400 per day, transportation allowance Rs 20 per day and washing allowance Rs 50 per month prior to June 2017. However, recently the Government has sanctioned minimum pay of home guard as per the 7th Pay Commission which works out to Rs 626 per day, said Parrikar.
