Nanus-Konse residents gherao PWD officials over water woes

Peeved over irregular water supply in the village of Nanus-Konse, Usgao villagers staged a morcha to the PWD’s water division office at Daag-Ponda on Monday and cornered the concerned engineers.

According to the villagers, despite several requests and complaints about the irregular water supply in Nanus and Konse area of the Usgao village, the PWD’s water supply division is ignoring them for the last 15 days.

Villagers further said that even the ruptured water pipelines have been left unattended. This has further reduced the water pressure, they said.

“We don’t know why the PWD officials are neglecting the Usgao villagers. Despite complaining about the water shortage issue, the PWD has completely ignored our needs,” Prakash Naik said.

The villagers informed that whenever they get water supply, it’s mostly in the wee hours between 3 am to 5 am and they have to wake up early morning to store water for daily use.

PWD engineer Yashwant Mapari said that due to the increased rate of water consumption for the month of March, a few areas in Usgao are receiving irregular water supply.

Mapari claimed that except some families in the hilly terrain area in Nanus and Konse, others are receiving adequate water supply. He further said that the PWD has decided to provide at least 2 hours of water supply to these villages and also arrangements of water tankers are made.
