Taleigao residents relieved as 90-odd samples test negative

Panaji: The throat swab samples of the 90-odd residents of Santissmovado in Taleigao have tested negative for COVID-19, providing some relief to the health authorities and people of Goa.

The residents’ samples were drawn on Wednesday for testing after a person residing in the area had tested positive for COVID-19. The COVID positive person was under treatment in the Goa Medical College and Hospital for respiratory illness and it is still not clear where he contracted the dreaded virus.

“The good news is that 90 people residing in the vicinity of the area have tested negative. It looks like he may have not contracted the virus from his locality. We are trying to trace the source of the virus,” health secretary Nila Mohanan told a press conference in Panaji. She said the health department has continued drawing samples from the particular locality by setting up a camp at the old Panchayat Ghar.
