Panaji: Tributes were paid to martyrs on the occasion of 21st Kargil Vijay Diwas. A webinar was organised by State Ex-NCC Cadets Association (SENA) on the occasion. The opening of the webinar was done by Rear Admiral Philipose George Pynumootil NM, Flag Officer Commanding Goa Naval Area (FOGA) and Flag Officer Naval Aviation (FONA)
with an exhaustive and informative speech on Kargil Diwas.
In his speech, Rear Admiral Pynumootil said that Goan youth should come forward to join the armed forces, and take the benefits of the services and become brave soldiers to serve the nation.
He also said that he will volunteer to help by arranging staff to be sent to various colleges and universities to spread awareness on life in armed forces, thereby attracting the youth to join.
He lamented that there is very less response from the Goan youth to join the defence forces.
He also expressed his wish that less privileged should be given free access to museums to gain knowledge of our defence forces.
Captain Utpal Datta, NM mesmerised the viewers at the webinar with his breathtaking photographs of Kargil area through his beautiful and interesting presentation, also explaining how the photographs were taken with MD35 Rainbow camera.
Vice president of the SENA Natasha Alvares Ferreira presented a poem ‘The Marigold.’ Major (retired) Venugopal Nair, secretary of Sainik Welfare Department, expressed his expectation on continuing the good work by SENA apart from his views on Kargil Diwas.
Vigilance officer Pravin Gawas of Directorate of Vigilance added a different flavour with his patriotic songs in Marathi.
Advisory member of SENA, John Aguiar paid tributes to the Indian soldiers with his Konkani poem expressing pride.
Lt Col Austin Collaco, senior vice president of SENA, spoke about his contribution towards motherland during Kargil war.
Earlier, Pallavi Salgaonkar, secretary of SENA welcomed the defence officers and other dignitaries to express themselves on Kargil Diwas while president of SENA Pramod Naik Sardessai presented the vote of thanks by acknowledging each participant at the webinar.
Earlier in the day, the members of ex- cadets association paid floral tributes to the Kargil martyrs at Azad Maidan, Panaji. Those present on the occasion were president Pramod Naik Sardessai, secretary Pallavi Salgaonkar, John Aguiar, Smriti Kothare, Janhavi Sawaikar and Pralhad Mayekar.
