CCP issues guidelines for Ganesh Chaturthi




The Corporation of City of Panaji has issued specific guidelines for the celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi within the jurisdiction
of the city.

The city mayor, Uday Madkaikar, has duly signed all the guidelines stating that all Chitrashallas shall observe social distancing and arrangements will be made outside the vending point by painting a circle at 2m distance each. Sale/purchase of plaster of Paris idols is strictly prohibited and only two persons in a vehicle will be allowed for picking up of idols from Chitrashallas.

No special stalls will be allowed in the city for sale of fire crackers/fireworks and all vendors entering for sale of matoli items will be placed at a designated area along DB Marg opposite Dempo House from August 19 to 22 only.

All flower vendors will be stationed for sale along the pavement in front of Royal Foods as per the designated sitting arrangements from August 19 to 26 while local vegetable and fruit vendors within the Panaji Municipal market will move out along the road parallel to INOX as per the designated sitting arrangement from August 19 to 26.

While issuing guidelines during the festival, he said that it has impressed upon all the Sarvajanik Ganesh committees to make efforts to have one and a half day festival celebration. Public gathering /celebrations/aartis for Sarvajanik shall be limited to 10 people as per the state government Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), Ganesh committees should not use fire crackers so as to avoid pollution.

Individual celebration should be restricted to house members only and no celebrations in any form shall be allowed in containment zones.

While issuing guidelines for immersion, Madkaikar said that immersion of idols should be within the jurisdiction of CCP and in the following areas only: Santa Monica jetty, Panaji, Ferry Warf point, Miramar Beach, Caranzalem Beach near Martins Corner and near Swim Sea, Ferry Warf at Ribandar, Captain of Ports Jetty, Panaji, Manaswada Ribandar, Fondvem near Akhadkar house, Ribandar Sao Pedro near Kamat House, Ribandar, Four Pillars, Mala and near Old PWD office, Panaji.

He stated that only two members will be allowed for immersion and all flowers /garlands/nirmalya will be deposited in the containers placed at each immersion points and should not be dumped in the water bodies and no fireworks should be used at the immersion sites.  No common vehicle shall be used for transporting the idols to the immersion site; all idols shall be carried in individual vehicles only.

Vehicles shall be parked away from the immersion spot to avoid congestion. Immersion shall be strictly from 5 pm to 10 pm only and no procession shall be allowed while bringing the idols to the immersion centre and no gathering after the immersion shall
be allowed.
