The state continues to report an alarmingly high number of coronavirus infections, with 628 fresh cases of COVID-19 detected on Wednesday, taking the tally of active cases above the 26,000-mark.

The COVID death count rose to 319 with four more people losing the battle against the virus in the last
 24 hours.

The confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Goa currently stand at 26,139 of which 5,375 are active, while 20,445 people have defeated the deadly virus.

Some 351 COVID patients recovered from the disease on
Wednesday.

Around 276 asymptomatic COVID patients opted for home isolation on Wednesday; so far, a total of 10,573 patients have chosen to isolate themselves at home.

According to DHS, the 5,375 active cases include six persons, who travelled to Goa from outside by road, rail and air.

A majority of the active COVID-19 cases in Goa fall under the jurisdiction of urban health centre of

Margao with 428 cases, community health centre Sankhali has 368 cases, while primary health centre of Porvorim has 319 cases within its jurisdiction.

The other CHCs from where the cases are emerging are Bicholim (248), Pernem (198), Valpoi (240), Curchorem (88) and Canacona (77). The other UHCs include Mapusa (186), Panaji (314) and Vasco (318).

The COVID cases are also surfacing from the jurisdictions of PHCs that include Aldona (150), Betki (122), Candolim (169), Cansarvanem (101), Colvale (103), Corlim (138), Chimbel (195), Siolim (139), Mayem (62), Balli (30), Cansaulim (138), Chinchinim (32), Cortalim (203), Curtorim (51), Loutolim (114), Marcaim (120), Quepem (108), Sanguem (78), Shiroda (44), Dharbandora (104), Ponda (306) and Navelim (80).
