Officials of Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) have appreciated the efforts of Reliance Jio’s network and construction team at Goa, for swiftly providing a much needed internet connectivity inside the damaged Pernem railway tunnel.
Internet connectivity inside the damaged Pernem Tunnel was most crucial for KRCL engineers to study and understand behavior of the soil that led to the landslide.
Providing 4G seamless connectivity to essential systems like laptops, PC, mobile and cameras installed inside the tunnel was essential for gathering of data analyses. The restoration operation of tunnel could commence only after findings of data analyses.
Appreciating the help, Ganesh K, deputy CSTE/ OL, KRCL said, “The entire Jio- Goa team facilitated installation of crucial communication system inside tunnel in record time of 24 hours on request from KRCL.” He made a special mention of Goa-Maharashtra Chief Technology Officer, Sunil Ghosavi and Goa Deputy CTO, Shyam Naik.
KRCL routes were diverted since August 6, after the landslide that occurred 300 metres inside the Pernem tunnel due to heavy rains. After nearly 40 days train traffic commenced on this route on September 16, 2020.
