6 injured in car-truck mishap at Kavlem

In a head-on collision between a tipper truck and an Omni car at Kapileshwari – Kavlem, six people were seriously injured on Saturday evening. The injured are identified as Manthan Naik (16), Ivan Fernandes (19), Kedar Naik (18), Akhil Naik (19), Abhijit Naik (36) and Caitan Fernandes (35). Four among them are shifted to Goa Medical College at Bambolim, while two were admitted at the Sub District Hospital in Ponda for treatment.

According to police the incident occurred at around 6.15 pm at Kapileshwari near the temple tank. All six Omni occupants were returning home from picnic at a farm based in Ponda, when the incident occurred. As the Omni reached Kapileshwari near temple tank, a tipper truck coming in the opposite direction rammed the car by entering from a wrong side.

The impact of the accident was so powerful that all six occupants of the Omni were seriously injured, while the driver of the car Abhijit Naik was stuck in the car and had to be rescued by fire personnel by cutting the metal. 

Soon after the incident the driver of the truck fled from the spot and police are trying to locate him. Police said the truck was loaded with hotmixing
material.

Police has registered an accident case and further investigation is in
progress.

According to Hawaldar Datta, four among the six injured sustained fractures on their legs. The injuries of the driver are said to be grievous.
