Aam Admi Party (AAP), on Saturday, staged a protest at the Seraulim railway crossing over the delay in the construction of the railway under bridge.

Presently, people have to wait for more than 15 minutes to cross the level whenever it the time for any train to move by.

Commenting on the protest, local MLA Churchill Alemao said that the AAP is misleading the public, and added that approvals are already in place and  work on the railway under bridge would begin soon.

Speaking to the media at the railway level crossing, AAP Seraulim coordinator Benjamin Fernandes said, “Every time a train passes by vehicles are made to wait on either side of the road for 15 to 20 minutes. These are the people who have to pick up or drop their children to school, or to go to work and waiting for such long periods of time inconvenience them.”

It was decided that the construction work would be taken up on a 50:50 cost sharing basis between the PWD and Konkan Railway Corporation.

With all the necessary requirements including  land acquisition and others already completed over a year ago, question is being raised as to why the construction work has not started.

Later in the day, speaking to the media at a press briefing, Alemao slammed the AAP stating they were misleading the people and that the work was on track.

“I have an order with me from the PWD.  Financial approval has already been done. So, the work will start soon. I had promised to construct this railway under bridge to help save people’s time. AAP is only misleading the people by saying the work will not start,” said Alemao.

According to the PWD order, an amount of Rs 3.65 crore has been sanctioned by the state for the construction work; project is estimated to cost  Rs 7.11 crore.
