Agnel Institute of Technology and Design celebrated its first annual day and prize distribution function on May 8.Chief guest on the occasion was Vice Chancellor of Goa University S R Shetye. Also present were Fr Peter D’Souza, local delegate superior of ATEC and assistant director of ATEC Fr Seby Rodrigues and director of DBCE Fr Kinley D’Cruz, principal of the institute V Mariappan and other staff and students of the institute.
The function began with an invocation. Principal V Mariappan in his welcome address presented the college report that traced the goals, progress, major events and achievements of the college.
Mariappan encouraged students to learn to surmount themselves rather than compete with others.
Vice chancellor S R Shetye congratulated students and emphasised on the need for good grades in academics as well as sports. He advised students not to become instruments in the hands of television and mobile. He added that students should take risks in their lives, but they should not risk their life. They should play in life, but they should not play with their lives. He wished students success in their endeavours.
Fr Seby instructed students to develop personal discipline and insisted that they not spare any opportunity that may come their way. Fr Kinley motivated the students to stay enthusiastic and keep expressing their ideas. He advised students to respect and revere teachers.
This was then followed by felicitation and distribution of certificates of merit to the students who performed well in different academic pursuits and sports.
During the annual day inaugural Shetye declared the first Entrepreneurship Cell (E-cell) in AITD open. The purpose behind forming this E-Cell is to practice and promote entrepreneurship amongst campus communities so that they are committed and driven to think, act entrepreneurially and explore entrepreneurship as a career option and a way of life, thus, helping to create entrepreneurial leaders of tomorrow who will lead companies, focus and have the necessary knowledge, skills and networks to be highly successful.
