Panaji houses several book stores which cater to different genres like academics, fiction, non-fiction, children books, and others. However, ‘Valsad Law Book House’ also known as ‘Goa Law Reporter’ is a bookstore that sells books exclusively pertaining to law and legal studies.
In fact, it is among the few stores in Goa where one can pick up books related to law, academics, other legal journals and more. “We started our services somewhere in 1992 taking orders for law books. Whoever wanted law books that were not available in the state, we would order it for them,” says advocate Umesh Karn who runs the store along with his wife Sushila Umesh Karn.
The store soon began attracting advocates, lawyers, students, teachers and other legal professionals who were seeking out legal books that were not easily found at book
stores in Goa.
Besides the regular law books they also publish a monthly legal publication called the ‘Goa Law Reporter’ which is a legal journal that reports judgements of the Bombay High Court. “The publication is important to people belonging to the legal field. It not only has the judgements but is a well analysed piece. It comes in handy as one can refer to them to know about the latest developments in the legal field. The publication team consists of well experienced and renowned advocates and lawyers,” adds Karn.
Librarian at Govind Ramnath Kare College Of Law, Anand Salve who has been a regular visitor to the store, says: “The monthly publication ‘Goa Law Reporter’ is a useful journal that has the judgements of the High Court. These are beneficial for our students and teachers. Even the visiting faculty prefer going through this publication as it gives them an insight into the ongoing activities in the state especially when it comes to law.”
In order to reach the place one needs to head to Dr Dada Vaidya Marg, Panaji. The store is located just opposite Hotel Manoshanti.
